Lenn, as the BB All Star game plodded along, I couldn't help myself.  I kept going over to "Big Country."  GREAT MOVIE!  Peck & Heston in the same movie; can't beat that!

"To Kill A Mockingbird?"

Great book and huge bestseller and one of Mr. Peck's finest performances.

I went and saw Despicable Me (3D version) on Saturday.  While animated and marketed at children I found it to be very enjoyable.  Having to sit through very poor quality children's movies I do appreciate the good ones.  My 6 year old loved it.

Lenn I can't believe how many movies you see after I saw the price of it.   And for a matinee.

Chris

If you read many of my reviews, I haven't paid to see a movie in maybe 5 years. All the DVD's we watch, we get free from our local library. (We pay enough in separate library taxes for this privilege :surrender:)
When we go to the movie theater, we go on Tuesday as they have special promotions from our cable company where you can go to their select theaters on Tuesday for free.

Viola, see all the movies we want and it doesn't cost us a cent (on paper anyway). We really pay it all back in other ways.

I saw Inception yesterday with Leonardo DiCaprio.  I really enjoyed it.  I'd give it a 9 out of 10.  It's about a team that can enter your dream to extract or plant information.  It was a little hard to follow and complex at times(there are dreams within dreams) but if you like movies about alternate realities like the Matrix, you might like this movie.  The special effects were very good.  The one thing that was a little cheesy was the technology to enter someone's dream.  It was a concoction of drugs along with a machine in a suitcase.  The dream participants are hooked up to the machine with just a wrist strap.

Writing of Gregory Peck, one of my favorites was "Yellow Sky". Great supporting cast beginning with Anne Baxter.

Lou Brown, manager of the Cleveland Indians in "Major League," one of the best BB movies ever made, has died.  James Gammon was 70.  May he Rest in Peace.

As was stated, we saw the new movie, Inception with Leo DiCaprio. Just as Squibber said, it was pretty confusing at times. To make matters worse, I nodded off a couple of times, maybe for a minute, but that was it. I was lost for the rest of the movie. It really is a movie you must pay attention to the entire movie. I was able to piece most of the things together, and it was very good. My wife thought that also, but it does get complicated at times.
When the movie was over, many people applauded, as it was good to see a movie you really had to think during. I will rewatch it when it comes out on DVD, but I would recommend this movie to any serious movie goer.

One note, since this has a PG 13 rating, there were many children in the audience, and I would definitely say this was not a movie for kids. Not because of violence, sex or anything like that, but I really think the plot was way over their heads.

I have been lax in reporting on movies, basically because we haven't rented any in the past few weeks. I did take one out this past weekend. A movie called 'Greenberg' with Ben Stiller. I never heard of the movie, but I usually like Ben Stiller and his type of comedy, and for no cost, we decided to watch it.

Personally, this movie won't make anyone think Stiller was deep in his craft. It was a sort of different type of movie, very slow, and not that funny. We almost turned it off once or twice, but since it wasn't terrible, we decided to stay with it. Not that that brought any sort of great magic to this movie.
Overall, it wasn't terrible, but it sure wasn't good. I would not pay one red cent to rent this movie, but for nothing, it was watchable.

Today, we used our Optimum card to go see Toy Story 3, which we heard was maybe the best of the bunch. I am happy to report IT WAS.
What a very enjoyable movie. IMVHO, no one still does animation as well as PIXAR, and even though we did not see this movie in 3-D, it was as enjoyable for us as it was for any of the kids in the theater.
With the same cast for voices as the other two, there wasn't a dull moment in the movie. I'm sure most have seen either of the previous two Toy Story movies, so you know the characters. There is no sense going into the plot, as it really makes no difference. It is the intermingling of the characters that make this movie so appealing.
I read the other day, that several critics had said that Toy Story 3 was by far the best movie of this summer season, and I heartily agree.
And, if you go to see it, don't leave when the credits come on, there are some hilarious scenes while the credits are rolling.
A very enjoyable afternoon for young and old.

Well I had a Friday nite off (forfeit), so we got a movie from the library and off we went.
this weeks edition was 'Cop Out', a new sort of buddy movie with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.
While putting it as a 'sort of buddy movie' is really putting it mildly, this was ALL buddy movie. The entire movie is the relationship between the two stars.
I have always like Willis. I like his sort of character, the older veteran cop, who is a sort of lower class Dirty Harry, but funnier. Tracy Morgan is a new name to me, and I don't believe I've seen him in other movies, but he played off Willis in this movie perfectly. They really tried to recreate the relationship like the Lethal Weapon series between Gibson and Glover.
This movie was no where near as good as the Lethal Weapon series, but I kind of liked it. Story, forget about it, the entire movie was a running joke of the two detectives doing their thing.
Again, stupid, yes at times, very feeble story, but the tow main stars were good and they did have a spark between them
