We just came back from the movies. Saw 'Despicable Me' another in a slew of animated 3-D movies that just seem to go one on top of the other. But, rejoice, this one was fun. It didn't get good ratings, but the box office numbers were/are telling and the movie has enjoyed great success. IMVHO it is deserved. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
If you have been in a shell and don't know the basic story, the mean evil old man wants to be villain of the year or something like that. He sort of adopts 2 little kids to help complete his project, and ends up falling for them, and the mean Ebenezer Scrooge is dead and the good Ebenezer emerges to enjoy life and make everyone happy. Well, not quite that way, but again, this was a very enjoyable movie, good for every age though very young children might get a bit of a shock at some of the old man's antics. But unlike toy Story where the ending is a bit sad, this is pure Hollywood and all couldn't end happier.
PS we did not see this in 3-D, but no harm done.

Friday night movie turned into Sunday nite movie this week. Yesterday we watched 'Bounty Hunter' with Jennifer Aniston. To be honest while Ms Aniston, even at 40, is a joy to look at, and one day, she may even get a movie role to show people she really can act, but this sure wasn't it. seems she has been continually saddled with these same type of roles, a bit ditsy girl, who meets a handsome guy and they spar off each other for 90-100 minutes and usually have a happy ending. Movie fluff as I like to call it.
Mrs G sort of liked this movie, but I really didn't. I never really understood the entire point of making this movie, there was no story, no real laughs, just some chemistry between Ms Aniston and the guy who was the lead (forgot his name) as I believe they were having a personal relationship off the scree as well.
Just another in a series of Aniston movies that will never prove she can do anything else on the scree. If this is all you are made of Ms Aniston, fine, but I really think you can do a lot better.

Last week, we went to the real movies and saw this new 'Buddy movie' "The Other Guys" with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.
I must start off by saying this was the lesser of several evils as far as movies go, anything else I just didn't want to see. I am NOT a Will Ferrell fan, although there have been a couple of his movies that I just didn't dislike. This wasn't one of them.
His part, sort of the good cop to Wahlberg's bad cop, is just tiring. He has played this nerdy type of character so many times already, he looks like he isn't even acting. I HATE this character. Sort of like 'elf' the sad, nobody loves me character.
Wahlberg was OK, and there were a couple of real funny moments, but it was just a silly movie for the brain of a 13 year old. If you ahve to pay for this movie, Don't.

Again a game on Friday nite (last one of the season), so we watched our Friday nite movie Saturday afternoon.
'Clash of the Titan's" 3-D version, only on DVD there is no 3-D. I remember the original one about 25 years ago and that was good. this one was OK, but except for the special effects, was a real silly story, and basically a set up for one or maybe more installments of this genre. You can see that the entire movie was set up for 3_D and you can see where they wanted to sort of throw things at you for that effect.
Look, it wasn't terrible, as I like movies like this. It was a sort of cross between a poor man's Star Wars, and Jason and the Arrgonauts.
Not terrible, but not that good either.

If you have Netflix instant download, you might enjoy a documentary called Champion.  It's about the life of tough guy actor Danny Trejo.  When he was young, he was an alcoholic and thug.  When he was in prison, he decided to make a change.  After prison, he became a drug & alcohol counselor.  One day, one of the people he was counseling asked him to visit him at work.  Danny Trejo obliged. It turned out that the place of work was a movie set.  They were filming a movie where they were using extras that looked like ex-convicts.  Someone spotted Danny because he looked so intimidating and asked him if he wanted to be an extra.  That break led him to a nice career in hollywood.  Danny talks about himself and his experiences and he is very engaging.

If you saw the latest Predator movie, he was in it.

"Flashbacks of a Fool"
Daniel Craig
wasn't released in the us and if you look around might be able to find it on the starz channels but only late at night.
has some rather graphic sex scenes that are not gratuitous.
GREAT sound track, great photography. in my opinion , a very stirring, thought provoking movie. I think its is one of the best movies i have ever seen, would be very interested to discuss this flick with anyone interested. i am not going to describe it, as i don't want to give any false impressions.
absolutely LOVED this movie
if you get a chance to see  it, let me know.
its not very often i ever see a movie that i enjoyed as much as this one. id give it 9 and 1/2 DRAKES out of 10!!!!!!

Back from vacation and need to catch up on some movies. seems without me, no one else watches anything. come on guys

To start out with, my DW and I watch some movie last night, new out on DVD. OK, let's be honest here, this movie was bad that after watching it last night, I simply cannot even remember the name of it, and I have no desire to even look it up. It was starring Jennifer Lopez, so if you see a brand new release starring J Lopez, forget it.
Hollywood is always looking for a new angle on the Boy meets Girl theory, and what they tried here, was abysmal. Jenny was middle age (???) wants a baby, goes for vitro and gets pregnant only to meet the man of her dreams and doesn't know what to do or tell him. It just gets worse from there.
There is one scene in NY where it is raining, and these two people want to get a cab. On the outside shot, it is raining on them, but all the other traffic in the background is stationary and no wipers on and people are walking with no umbrellas.
 Pretty bad stuff.

Thanks, Lenn.  Sounds REALLY bad!  I LOVE to talk about movies.  But, actually, the only movies I like to write about are the "oldies."  They might interest you, but I don't think many others would be interested.

Having had netflix for the last month, I have seen some good, not so good, and "oh forget it" type movies.  I saw the remake of "Escape to Witch Mountain" which wasnt bad.  I liked the "Echelon Conspiracy", and "G-Force".  "Loved Old Dogs" but "Super Capers" falls into the "Oh Forget it" movie.  Do NOT waste your time. . .

I tried to get as many as I could in, in the last three weeks.  School is starting back up this week and I am not going to have any time to do much of anything. . .

Since Friday as a Jewish holiday, I wasn't able to get to the library to takeout any movies, but good old TCM came thru again. Last night they repeated 'White Heat' maybe Jimmy Cagney's best role ever, but, without a doubt, his best gangster role of his career.
His portray of Cody Jarrett will be remembered long after we are all gone. With one of the most famous last lines in movie history, it was just a pleasure to watch for the umpteenth time.
